North American Groups Express Concerns about Canadian Mining Project

A multinational alliance made up of environmentalists, businesses and more than 200 indigenous groups have announced their opposition to a mining plan that may severely affect the environment. Imperial Metals recently applied for an exploratory permit from the British Columbia government that would allow the company to drill for gold around the Skagit River’s source, which is near the American border. Opponents of this project, which exist on both sides of the border, argue that if the exploration for gold is permitted, mining will follow, which will heavily pollute the river while also harming local communities as well as the…

Experts Caution about Space Mining War Between Global Powers

Many experts caution that Russia and China may soon join forces to prevent the United States from dominating an ET mining base in space. The former Trump administration had announced that by 2024, the country would be returning astronauts to the moon, in addition to proposing a worldwide legal framework for mining on the celestial body. The framework, named the Artemis Accords, encouraged citizens in the country to mine for commercial purposes, both on the moon and on other celestial bodies. Led by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (“NASA”) in the U.S., the accords were signed in October by…

Researchers stumbled upon jarosite in Antarctica while analyzing deep ice cores in an attempt to understand ice age cycles. The mineral is found on the surface of Mars.
