- Powermax Minerals, focused on rare earth element projects in North America, has entered into a three-year option agreement to acquire a 100% interest in the Melba North Property
- The property is underlain by the Clay-Howells Alkalic Rock Complex that is interpreted as a center characterized by LREE-dominant, magnetite-associated and carbonatite-related REE mineralization
- A 2025 assessment report on the Clay-Howells claim, which included claims listed on the Melba North option schedule, documented 49 samples that returned more than 0.17% total rare earth element oxides (“TREO”)
- The Melba North Property is adjacent to Powermax’s Hopkins REE property, where the company has, using a desktop study, identified priority areas for future field validation; however, mineralization continuity between the two sites has not yet been established
Powermax Minerals (CSE: PMAX) (OTCQB: PWMXF), a Canadian mineral exploration company focused on rare earth element projects in North America, recently entered into a three-year option agreement with Gravel Ridge Resources Ltd. and 1544230 Ontario Inc. The agreement grants Powermax an option to acquire a 100% interest in the Melba North property (https://ibn.fm/YvKri).
Located in the Clay-Howells townships area of northern Ontario, the Melba North Property is adjacent to Powermax’s Hopkins REE property. It consists of 10 unpatented mining claims comprising 160 cells and covering approximately 3,360 hectares. Both the Melba North and the Hopkins are underlain by the Clay-Howells Alkalic Rock Complex, a Late Precambrian alkalic intrusive complex. Interpretations of data from the complex describe a structurally emplaced, multi-phase alkaline-carbonatite intrusive center characterized by LREE-dominant, magnetite-associated and carbonatite-related REE mineralization (https://ibn.fm/2ai8M). (Note: Although Hopkins and Melba North are adjacent sites, mineralization continuity between them has not yet been established.)
Claims listed in the Melba North option schedule were covered in a November 2025 assessment work report by Laurentia Exploration Inc. for Argyle Resources Corp. The report documented seven heli-portable BTW size drill holes totaling 1,983 meters on the Clay-Howells claim. “Across the selected samples reported, 49 returned more than 0.17% TREO (total rare earth element oxides), including 20 above 0.30% TREO and six above 0.50% TREO. The highest reported sample interval was 0.76% TREO over 0.60 m,” reads Powermax’s announcement of the agreement.
The company plans to include Melba North in its current Hopkins-area exploration work and wants to confirm whether a permit issued on September 2, 2025, remains valid and covers the planned drilling before mobilization. In addition to combining the exploration work at the two adjacent properties, Powermax intends to integrate the historical drill database with mapping, sampling, and geophysical data to “refine targets and assess follow-up drilling.”
“Melba North adds an important land position beside Hopkins and lets us evaluate the two areas within a coordinated exploration framework,” commented Paul Gorman, CEO of Powermax. “We will integrate the 2025 drilling data with our current field work and evaluate suitable targets for follow-up drilling, subject to permit conditions and regulatory approvals.”
The Melba North Property option agreement comes a few months after Powermax announced the option to acquire the Hopkins Rare Earths Project comprising 13 mineral claims that cover about 6,145 hectares (https://ibn.fm/DgcrA). The company later announced it had received a desktop study for the project, which evaluated publicly available datasets to assess REE prospectivity. The study identified multiple priority targets, providing Powermax with a clear, focused path forward for field validation (https://ibn.fm/2ai8M).
